Millificent, Grahamstown – Luncheon at Packwood Estate – Dec 2015
Met with breathtaking views of a vineyard against the backdrop of the Cape fold belt upon arrival. The overcast sky provided a lovely contrast to the well maintained gardens and green pastures surrounding the estate which in itself was infused with the farm lifestyle. Little vegetable patches dotted around dining areas with the earthy scents of fertile soil and aromatic wines floating in the air. The staff were friendly and made you feel right at home on the rustic picnic benches, wine was abundant and the food was fresh- farm to table. Sitting down to drinks and a meal produced directly from nature is gratifying, knowing it comes from the farm or from farms a stones throw away.
If you ever want to take a day to enjoy nature with a luxurious cheese platter and a bottle of wine produced from the soil directly under your feet, then go to Packwood.
PS. Freddie the basset is delightful and a lovely companion to enjoy the views with!
