The Vineyard
In 2006 the start of Packwood’s little vineyard.
We all profess to have similar climates to parts of Europe and New Zealand for growing cool cultivars. But Plett has its very own unique growing climate, Packwood’s vineyard is no exception planted in 2006, located on top of the farm on a gentle rolling hill 330 metres above sea level. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot noir now produce award winning handcrafted wines and bubbly. We take great care of our vineyard and work side by side with nature, our cattle and horses graze amongst the rows from the end of harvest to the beginning of spring, organically fertilising by hand at the first signs of budding. We mulch our vine cuttings into the ground and rain harvest over half a million litres of water per annum. Our farming knowledge spanning over 5 generations, from growing cereals and rearing outdoor pigs, dairy and now wine has taught us great patience and understanding. We hope you enjoy the fruits of our hard labour.
