Anton V – Tasting and lunch – Dec 2015

We recently went to Packwood for a wine tasting and lunch. I am a professional in the wine industry and regularly attend tastings at different vineyards.

Packwood was truly a breath of fresh air, it is a truly unique concept and definitely worth a visit.

The wines are unique and really expresses the terroir of the area. Ashley hosted the tasting, he is very knowledgeable and his outgoing personality just adds to the experience and atmosphere.

The lunch is also truly an amazing experience, everything is grown on the farm and freshly prepared. The cheeses are spectacular and something that any “Foody” should try. The prices are also very reasonable, specially if one compares them to the larger Estates in the more “Familiar” wine areas. Well worth the visit and they will see me again.

Millificent, Grahamstown – Luncheon at Packwood Estate – Dec 2015

Millicient01Met with breathtaking views of a vineyard against the backdrop of the Cape fold belt upon arrival. The overcast sky provided a lovely contrast to the well maintained gardens and green pastures surrounding the estate which in itself was infused with the farm lifestyle. Little vegetable patches dotted around dining areas with the earthy scents of fertile soil and aromatic wines floating in the air. The staff were friendly and made you feel right at home on the rustic picnic benches, wine was abundant and the food was fresh- farm to table. Sitting down to drinks and a meal produced directly from nature is gratifying, knowing it comes from the farm or from farms a stones throw away.

If you ever want to take a day to enjoy nature with a luxurious cheese platter and a bottle of wine produced from the soil directly under your feet, then go to Packwood.

PS. Freddie the basset is delightful and a lovely companion to enjoy the views with!

We happened to be in the area, and were blown away upon our arrival. Ashley took us for the tasting. He was extremely approachable. And the MCC out of this world!
The food was delicious , I couldn’t have expected more even though Vicky never hesitated bringing more. Everything was from surrounding farms, raw, organic, free range and freshly made, squeezed or laid.

Well done, you guys got it right!!!

GerritvR – Engagement at Packwood

I wanted to get engaged at a wine estate while we were on holiday in the area. I spoke to Vicky at Packwood beforehand and she agreed without hesitation. She made the absolutely brilliant with a private tour of the estate, wine tasting and finally she surprised us with a lovely cheese platter with flowers and a bottle of bubbly. I couldn’t have asked for a lovelier scene to pop the question. Thank you so much Packwood Country Estate for a perfect and truly unforgettable day. We will definitely visit again, soon! And this time definitely stay over, the accommodation is excellent with a breathtaking view! Thank you again!

We stopped at Packwood for a wine tasting and lunch on a trip down to Cape Town by one of my travel companions. The idea was to discover a new place none of us have been to before and this sure was it. No big signs or flashing reception. This is truly something off the beaten track for the more discerning traveler. Lunch is port of the tasting experience and we were very fortunate to have one of the owners tell us more about the wines and the dairy. It is not a restaurant to just go to for lunch so don’t just include it as a lunch stop on a trip. A little more signage would be very welcome though.

We had a wonderful time and Packwood wines are great. We stayed in the main house and it was excellent. On arrival we were treated with fresh bread just baked, real farm style butter, wines and fresh farm milk. Fire places loaded with wood and the friendly staff always there to make our stay special. We did some great mountain biking while we were there and this the ideal places for mountain bikers looking for some places to stay and ride.

Our recent overnight stay at Packwood quite literally set the benchmark for service delivery in South Africa. The spectacular view was outmatched only by the warm welcome we received by our hosts Vicky and Peter, who continued to impress right throughout our stay. Our rooms were specially prepped and waiting for us on arrival after a long drive, which made settling in easy – like a home away from home (We didn’t even notice that special preparation was made to accommodate all of us). Our hosts were with us and available the entire time, from the wine and cheese tasting right through to dinner and breakfast the next morning. I was surprised to learn that everything that was made for us to eat and drink was made using fresh ingredients from the farm itself…all using sustainable farming methods. The quality and attention to detail that was evidently put into everything was a real treat. We had more than our fill and walked away with an education to go with it. I’ve lived in the garden route my whole life and been on a number of wine tastings and I have never in my life experienced the service that we did – quite simply unparalleled. Oh… and if you get a chance to visit, the Pinot Noir is really something special!!
